The 2008 budget reduces the tax rate slightly over 2007 (from .057
to .055).
While Utilities, Fuel, Water Line Service and
Insurance increased $13,000 over 2007, the Board was able to
reduce the amount to be raised by taxation $6,500
through consolidation and aggressive cost controls. Twenty-two percent (22%) of the Eastampton Fire District
budget
is paid to the water utility - most of that amount maintains
the water lines that supply your drinking water and has nothing to do with fire hydrants.
The
2008 budget includes the fifth and final payment on the note for the
two fire trucks delivered in March 2003. Upon that payment, the Fire
District does not have any capital debt load!
The Eastampton Fire-Rescue Department has worked hard
with the Eastampton Board of Fire Commissioners to develop a budget that holds the line on
taxes while providing the training and equipment that our volunteers need in today's
world.
Thank You for Your Support!
The Eastampton Fire-Rescue
Department continues, in our opinion, to be the best municipal
services bargain in the County! In 1996, a home
assessed at $166,000 paid approximately $4,750 in property taxes, of
which about $160 was for the fire tax. In 2007, the same home now
assessed at $330,000 will have seen its total property tax bill
climb over $2,700 to almost $7,500 while
the fire tax increased only twenty-eight dollars!!! The district's fire tax
and amount to be raised by taxation continue to be among the lowest in the
county. The per capita cost for Eastampton residents is less than half the
state average for fire districts.
During this time, the fire district
has created a consolidated municipal fire department, raised the department's
insurance ratings three grades from Class 7 to Class 4, replaced an apparatus
fleet that did not meet NFPA standards with one that now does, and incorporated
the Emergency Squad and Fire Prevention Bureau into the fire department. It has done all this
without carrying any debt beyond January 2008!
